Loss of Y chromosome in men enables cancer to grow

According to new research, as men age, some of their cells lose the Y chromosome, which makes them biological males, and this loss impairs the body’s capacity to fight cancer. According to the study, cancer cells can evade the body’s immune system by losing the Y chromosome. Male aging has a common effect on aggressive bladder cancer, but it also somehow makes the condition more susceptible to and responsive to the standard treatment known as immune checkpoint inhibitors.
